Welcome!

Rhode Island Campus Compact (RICC) AmeriCorps*VISTAs are full-time AmeriCorps members who address the pressing issues facing low-income communities throughout the state with placements at institutions of higher education and core urban schools.

RICC AmeriCorps*VISTAs help higher education institutions align resources and build effective community partnerships in order to better respond to pressing issues facing low-income communities.  In their capacity, AmeriCorps*VISTAs directly impact local communities by leveraging a variety of campus and community resources to meet identified community needs.  Through their unique placements, AmeriCorps*VISTA members build relationships with community-based organizations and connect them with campus resources such as student volunteers, faculty teaching service-learning courses and community Federal Work Study programs.
What is AmeriCorps*VISTA?
AmeriCorps*VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is one of several full time national service programs. VISTA members work to develop lasting solutions to the problems of poverty in America by serving in nonprofit organizations and agencies to start, strengthen, or expand programs, systems, and services that help people move out of poverty.

What are the goals of the RICC AmeriCorps*VISTA program?
To give an idea of the kinds of things RICC VISTAs do, below are the current overall program goals. The objectives of each individual campus host site will fit into these goals.

Goal #1: Increase Post-Secondary Access Opportunities for Low-Income PK12 Students

Goal #2: Build Capacity of College Success and Retention programs

Goal #3: Build and Maintain the Capacity of the Nonprofit Sector to Meet Needs of Low-Income Individuals

What do RICC AmeriCorps*VISTA Members do?
RICC AmeriCorps*VISTAs will perform a wide variety of service activities in support of the goals and objectives of the RICC VISTA program. Key activities will include:
  • Work with community-based organizations and their partnerships with higher education and PK12 schools
  • Increase awareness of and access to higher education resources
  • Work with college and PK12 students connecting them to their local community through volunteer recruitment, training, and leadership development
