Learn and Serve America School-Based Funding Opportunities

Each year Rhode Island Campus Compact will support PK-12 schools and member campuses through Learn and Serve subgrants.  Subgrants will be selected on the basis of meeting the overall goals of the program.  Request for Proposals will be posted here on a yearly basis.  If you are interested in funding from Learn and Serve in Rhode Island but have missed a posted deadline, please contact someone from the RICC office to learn how to apply for the next round of funds.

PK-16 Partnerships for Success Mini-Grants: Round II

Rhode Island mini-grants of $1,000 are intended to expand service-learning practice to schools and build a network of PK-16 educators.  Partnerships can be a one-time event or an ongoing program.  Priority will be given to schools that:

·      Involve at least 2 teachers, 50 students and one higher education and/or community partner
·      Service-learning is directly tied to classroom curriculum
·      Engage a relatively high percentage of low-income, disadvantaged and/or potentially first generation college students;
·      Have graduation rates at or below the state average;
·      Propose developing service-learning projects, led by students, that identify and address significant barriers to student achievement and college access;  and,
·      Demonstrate an interest and commitment to networking with other educators to enhance their practice.
All grantees must attend a 3-hour training during the afterschool hours. Current workshops are scheduled for March 3 and March 31.

Application here.  Due March 7, 2011.

PK-16 Leadership Team Grants

Service Learning Leadership Team Grants in the range of  $7,500 to $10,000 will provide funds for 3-4 districts or schools that are interested and serious about supporting a leadership team to develop and implement a plan to promote and institutionalize high quality service-learning practice over the course of three years.

Working in close partnership with community agencies and higher education institutions, districts/schools will receive $7,500-$10,000 for the first year and be eligible for renewing for up to two more years at the same amount pending federal funding and performance.

Successful proposals will have a plan to involve a team of teachers, administrators, at least one community partner and one higher education institution in Rhode Island.  Applicants will also commit to implement classroom-based service-learning activities, attend professional development opportunities throughout the year, meet with other grantees and share their work through various statewide and regional venues.  A significant amount of resources should be allocated in the grant budget for professional development for the leadership team, teachers and other participants.
