Service Learning Workshops and Professional Development Opportunities

Through Learn and Serve America funding, Rhode Island Campus Compact hosts a series of service learning workshops and professional development opportunities throughout the year.  Most workshops are free and open to all.  LSA grantees are highly encouraged to attend all workshops.

Promoting Strong Student Outcomes: Effective Approaches to PK-12 Service-Learning Curriculum Development & AssessmentPk-12 teachers along with school, community and higher education partners are encouraged to attend this hands-on session.  Our focus will be on how to effectively use service-learning as a teaching and learning strategy to support academic, social and personal goals for PK-12 students. Participants will be introduced to curriculum development models and assessment tools designed to engage students in high quality service-learning experiences.

Building effective partnerships between PK-12 schools, local colleges and universities, and community based organization is one of the key ways we can improve outcomes for our PK-12 students in Rhode Island.   This interactive workshop will focus on key strategies for initiating and sustaining strong school/ community/higher education partnerships to support PK-12 service-learning initiatives.  We will highlight examples from existing service-learning partnerships in Rhode Island and elsewhere. School leaders and teachers from all grade levels and subject areas are welcome.  Community and higher education partners encouraged to attend.
